When they venture into settled areas, however, they can depopulate entire villages, destroying boats and houses in a feast of death and destruction. Far rarer but even more deadly, gargantuan anacondas lurk in vast river networks, usually far from human habitation. Fully grown anacondas can stretch up to 20 or even 30 feet long and weigh over 500 pounds. The green anaconda is considered the largest snake in the world. They devour any prey they can catch, primarily fish and amphibians but also herd animals coming near the water’s edge or their treed lairs, and even other predators like caimans and other snakes. The anaconda snake belongs to the Boa family of snakes, including Pythons and anacondas, and is scientifically known as the genus Eunectes. They range in color from yellow to shades of green, with some species having spots or speckled patterns. These massive snakes spend most of their time underwater or in caves along riverbanks, but they are known to climb trees in search of birds and their nests. A member of the boa family, Boidae, South America’s green anaconda is the heaviest snake in the world, having the greatest girth in proportion to its length of any snake. At the start of its next turn, it drops to 0 hit points and is must begin making death saves, and it can’t regain hit points until it can breathe again. The name anaconda actually refers to the Eunectes genus, but it is most often used to refer to one species, the green or common anaconda. When a creature runs out of breath or is choking, it can survive for a number of rounds equal to its Constitution modifier (minimum of 1 round). On a failure, the creature loses its air and begins suffocating immediately. The anaconda can force a creature it has grappled to make a DC 16 Strength saving throw. Unfortunately, it either died in the controlled explosion after which they found the snake or by construction workers after it emerged. This snake was discovered at a construction site in Brazil. If it has one Large or two Medium or smaller creatures constricted, it can’t constrict another target. The largest anaconda was reportedly 33 feet long, 3 feet across at its widest part, and weighed about 880 lbs. Until this grapple ends, the creature is restrained, and the anaconda has disadvantage on attack rolls to constrict another target.
